Right after the attack took place, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had initiated the entering of World War II for the United States of America. He had said in his speech that the attack on Pearl Harbor was "a date that will live in infamy". He directly and instantly put America in World War II knowing that they had to fight back. Because of this, the entire outcome of World War II had changed. The US wanted to show Japan that even though they had been attacked severely, they would fight back and get revenge on them. On December 11, 1941, the United States of America declared war on Japan. However, instantly, Japan's allies, Germany and Italy, also ordered war on America, pulling them into World War II. This completely changed the outcome of the war because now that a very strong country and nation had entered into the war, it was easier for their allies to win the war (Britain and Russia). Although the United States would have entered the war anyways, this attack "sped it up" and put them in the war much earlier; this could be thought of as an excellent thing because Hitler's insane plans were stopped and many German lives were spares. But even after "defeating" (since it wasn't a complete win for the United States), America wasn't done. On April 18th, 1942, a group of men called the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders (80 men) and their mission was very dangerous; they had to fly over Japan, drop bombs and then fly to the free-land part of China. This was thought of to not only to cheer the public and U.S. military, but more importantly, to prove and show Japan that America could hit them back much harder. Even though Japan had felt that their mission had been an overall success, but it had eventually wasn't that case.
